Maun – Botswana
An Outback town in Botswana
The dusted town of Maun is the gateway to all things safari in Botswana. It is in this outback town where you will be given the keys to enter and explore the miraculous beauty of the Okavango Delta; track down mighty buffalo, pass by lounging hippopotami, or view the sprawling birdlife at Moremi Game Park, or journey through the desolated landscapes of arid sweeping sands in the Central Kalahari Desert.
Known as the tourism capital of Botswana, Maun does not have much to interest the seasoned traveler, other than flights to the much sought after safari destinations.
Once a little town, Maun grew rapidly catering to all who wished, wanting to experience the unique African wildlife that belongs to Botswana.
Not much has changed over the years; the air is still heavy with rural charm and littered with traditional thatched huts, but now, Maun boasts the addition of modernized infrastructure to cater to the comings and goings of its many visitors.

Advice from Safari Russ:
“If you have a few hours to kill, The Nhabe Museum houses the Natural History and cultural influences of the Okavango, and its surrounding areas. Although small, the historic building dates back to 1939 and embody Edwardian architecture.”
